Air-Source Heat Pumps
One efficient system heats and cools your home or business! And because it moves heat captured from outside air, an air-source heat pump (ASHP) operates with tremendous efficiency.
Benefits of ASHPs
Air-source heat pumps:
- Are compatible with most forced-air heating systems.
- Are a cost effective way to upgrade your electric heating and cooling system.
- Provide maximum efficiency gains as part of an electric forced-air heating system.
There are two types of air-source heat pumps:
- Standard air-source heat pumps.
- Cold-climate heat pumps (CCHPs)perform with high efficiency throughout the heating season and provide up to 90% of space heating needs. Learn more!
Standard air-source heat pumps (ASHPs) operate at their highest efficiency at temperatures of about 40°F or higher. ASHPs provide air conditioning during the summer and efficient heating during cool spring and fall weather when heating is needed but outside temperatures remain above freezing. Under these conditions ASHPs will operate at 200-300% efficiency.
Standard ASHPs generally provide less than 30% of space heating needs and need to be paired with supplemental heating for winter temperatures. With fossil-fuel systems ASHPs normally will be installed with a crossover set point of 25-30°F.
Save with off-peak rates
During the summer, heat pumps installed on one of our off-peak rates, including Dual Fuel or Deferred Load, may be cycled on and off every 15 minutes. Cycled control takes place only during occasional peak periods. Spaces stay cool and comfortable while helping us to manage summer’s peak demands and reduce cooling costs.
Heat pumps installed on our general service rate or on our Residential Demand Control rate are eligible for cycled control through the CoolSavings program. Customers enrolled in CoolSavings receive an average monthly bill credit of $8.25 during the summer season (June through September).
Rebates available
ASHP and CCHP rebates are available for qualified equipment installations. Rebates vary by state.Learn more.
